Tryout Day 1. Depart 3:00pm. All 19 players expected. No one is on the course today — the whole group rotates through three stations: putting (Geoff Owers), short game (Stephen, hula-hoop targets), and range (self-directed).
All 19 split into three groups of 7/6/6, spreading the seven returners across all three so each group has evaluation continuity. Same class-mixing approach as Thursday's orientation groups.
Round robin — each group hits all three stations exactly once, so no group waits twice for the same thing and each of you only needs to be in one place at a time. Groups run 6–7 players; each staffed station sends players through one at a time, not assembly-line — so no one watches someone else's putt or shot and picks up a read before their own turn. Whoever isn't hitting waits out of sightline of the green/hoops (behind you, or otherwise angled away) and clears out the moment they finish rather than lingering to watch the next player. At this pace (~20–25 sec/putt, ~30 sec/shot including movement between spots), a group of 6–7 still clears a station in roughly 20–25 minutes if kept brisk.
| Block | Group 1 | Group 2 | Group 3 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Putting (Geoff) | Short Game (Stephen) | Range (self-directed) |
| 2 | Short Game (Stephen) | Range (self-directed) | Putting (Geoff) |
| 3 | Range (self-directed) | Putting (Geoff) | Short Game (Stephen) |
One hole, 4 spots around it (N/S/E/W) at two distances: short (~4 ft) and long (~12 ft) — 8 spots total, 1 putt from each. One player goes through all 8 spots start to finish before the next player begins; everyone else waits out of sightline so nobody sees another player's line or speed on the same putts first. ~20–25 sec per putt keeps a full lap to about 3 minutes a player.
Scoring (per putt):
| Putt type | Make | Miss inside 3 ft (lag) | Miss |
|---|---|---|---|
| Short (4 spots) | 1 pt | — | 0 |
| Long (4 spots) | 2 pts | 1 pt | 0 |
Max score: 12 (4 short makes + 4 long makes).
Three hula hoops at 10, 25, and 40 yards. Each player hits 2 shots at each hoop (6 shots total), start to finish, before the next player starts. Everyone else waits out of sightline until called up. ~30 sec per shot (including the walk hoop to hoop) keeps a full lap to about 3 minutes a player; balls get collected in bulk once the whole group has been through, not after each shot.
Scoring (per shot):
| Result | Points |
|---|---|
| Ball finishes in the hoop | 3 |
| Ball finishes within one hoop-width of the hoop | 1 |
| Otherwise | 0 |
Max score: 18 (6 shots × 3 pts).
No formal scoring today. Players work on their own.
